Giang Vo is a Vietnamese-American conductor based in Oklahoma City. He holds a Master of Music in Orchestral Conducting from Northwestern University, where he studied with Donald Schleicher, and a Bachelor’s degree in Violin Performance from Oklahoma City University, where he studied under Dr. Benjamin Shute and Dr. Sophia Ro. His conducting mentors also include Andrew Megill, Jeffrey Grogan and Alexander Mickelthwate.
Vo made his operatic debut assisting Benjamin Manis—former Resident Conductor of Houston Grand Opera—in Northwestern Opera Theater’s production of Mozart’s Così fan tutte, culminating in his conducting of the final performance to great enthusiasm. Following the success of Così fan tutte, he was invited and served as music director for the company’s fall production of Benjamin Britten’s Albert Herring. He also led NU OPUS’s (Opera Projects for Undergraduate Singers) production of Xavier Montsalvatge’s El Gato con Botas. In the summer of 2025, Giang continued his assistant work with the Berlin Opera Academy for its production of Cendrillon.
As a passionate advocate for music as a cornerstone of the community, Giang has organized an annual summer orchestra that brings together both amateur and professional musicians from the Oklahoma City area, providing accessible musical performance to a growing audience.
I am an amateur composer who writes music out of love and gratitude for the people who have shaped my life.
Each of my works is composed for—and dedicated to—the friends and mentors who continue to inspire me. My music is reflective of my upbringing: a fusion of pop, jazz, classical traditions, and the Vietnamese music of the 1970s and ’80s. Programs like Paris by Night, a Vietnamese musical variety show, formed a foundation for my musical imagination.
